Einstein GPT support

Issue #2425 resolved
Scott Wells repo owner created an issue

I’ve been fielding quite a few questions about whether IC2 will support Einstein GPT or not and figured I’d create an entry here for a quick and consistent response. The short answer is “yes, it will.”

I’ve already been in contact with the relevant parties at Salesforce and am just waiting for access to the underlying APIs so that I can integrate them. Hopefully that will be next week (the week of Dreamforce 2023) or immediately thereafter, as the team wanted to wait until the broader announcement at Dreamforce when those APIs will be considered stable(-ish) by necessity of having more folks using them.

Once I have access to those APIs, I should be able to turn around an integration (likely beta quality initially as that’s what the underlying APIs/service will be anyway) very quickly.

So rest assured, I’m as excited/anxious as everyone else to get that new feature integrated into IC2. I’ll be posting status updates here for those that are curious about progress.

UPDATE 2023-09-08: After chatting a bit more with the appropriate folks at Salesforce, it sounds like the APIs (or more specifically the services that those APIs expose) won’t likely be ready for third-party clients immediately. I certainly want to be respectful of the teams working on and supporting those APIs and services, so while I hope to prototype a first-class integration ASAP--and even that only if the limited API/service access required for a prototype won’t cause issues for them--I will not make that available to IC2 users until the folks at Salesforce say they’re ready for that additional traffic. Hopefully that will happen quickly, but I can only imagine that they’re going to be insanely busy for the next couple of weeks as usage of this new feature ramps up from the broad exposure and access resulting from Dreamforce. So rest assured that a full first-class integration is coming to IC2, but it may lag by a small period of time out of respect for the folks who have been tasked with creating and supporting this new offering.

UPDATE 2023-09-11: As expected, Einstein GPT is now available as an open beta:

As stated above, though, the guidance from Salesforce continues to be that it is not yet ready for external/third-party clients. Hopefully that will change very quickly, and as soon as it does, I will provide full first-class support for this new and exciting feature in IC2.

UPDATE 2023-09-12: We are well underway!

Early demo image removed; see the more complete one below

UPDATE 2023-09-14: It’s pretty much feature-complete now. I’ve just attached another animated gif that shows a more complete demo with feedback, history, proper handling of issues like generated top-level types, etc. I’ll chat with the appropriate folks at Salesforce about their comfort level with me releasing this sooner-rather-than-later, but obviously as stated above, I want to respect their concerns as well.
