Issue #22 new

So its easier to do IVA for it.

Sliding external parts/shields like the crew tanks and concorde cockpit.

There's a mod to do animated RCS, but I'd rather keep it shuttle-style, I doubt anything animated would survive re-entry in the open state

  2. Christian Gerefalk

Well yeah, point would be that you can only use em in orbit, but yeah can't enforce that.

Hmm, I could actually link an animation on the external model to the on/off state of RCS using RPM...

But yeah something that swings out and isn't aerodynamic being possible to use during re-entry etc would be silly, something that swings out and is somewhat aerodynamic? Something that looks like small wings.

Or covers for the RCS ports, either external plates that move/hinge away from the ports or more internal ones like the window shutters (plates slides across the port groups on the inside if that makes sense (exterior hull with a hole - tin interior space a plate can slide into - further hole the monoprop comes out of).

Also got a prop for the S3 cooking in the concept stage, a control for the nose in the IVA, not sure if I should go digital or analog on it yet, a pretty nifty digital prop with a "screen" with the outline of the cockpit in the different modes with the active state's outline lit up would be pretty sweet, though a big analog lever would also be pretty cool.

I'd rather you stuck with Shuttle-style RCS ports. If you absolutely must, like I said, there's a plugin that can do animated RCS.

  5. Christian Gerefalk

Well RPM can do it itself, no need for an additional plugin.

What about shuttle style RCS ports that have an internal shutter like feature?

  6. Leonardo Valeri Manera reporter

What the plugin does you can't do be default is have the RCS deply when RCS is enabled and retract when its disabled, and only work when its deployed, etc.

Anyway, this all seems a bit unnecessary, shuttle-style RCS is fine? There's no need for covers if they're above, if they're below and need a cover you can't use them in re-entry so ...

  7. Christian Gerefalk

Yeah I might have gotten too enamored with the idea :P

RPM can link internal and external animations to states of various variables like RCS being turned on, so if you turn on RCS you could open a shutter similar to the window ones over the port, but yeah it's needless eyecandy.

What do you think about my digital vs analog nose control prop idea btw?

Depends on what sort of look you want - IRL its usually like landing gear, ie 2-3 lights that light up/flash to represent stowed/deploying/deployed state.

Personally I'm a fan of the older style 2 lights. one retracted, one deployed, flashes when going to that state.

  9. Christian Gerefalk

And from what I've seen in reality it's usually a analog lever to control it right? I'm thinking both displaying the status of the nose and controlling it using the same prop btw.

It would likely be a digital switch these days, but yeah IIRC it was a lever.

Before fly-by-wire systems were introduced it would usually be a lever beside the seats that could be in up(closed)/down(closed)/neutral(open) positions to allow hydraulic fluid to go to the proper circuits with lights indicating up/down/locked. Something like this Landing gear and flap control levers
