Cannot attach HX1-S-H3 on side attach nodes

Using fresh install of KSP 0.90.0, and B9 Aerospace 5.2.7.

HX1-S-H3 Structural Hub will not attach along the two opposing attach nodes. Only the 'top' node will affix to anything. Placing the part will leave the part transparent, but in place. Have tried with multitude of other parts without attaching to them.
