Resource Leak?

I suspect there is some kind of resource leak: The longer I play the game the slower it gets. After playing to about level 15 i'll notice the inventory will start to lag a lot and it can take 5 seconds to open it, 4 seconds to drop something, 4 seconds to eat something etc.

What happens if you save the game and restart the program and reload the saved game?

Although the lag isn’t extreme, I can confirm that the game starts to lag during long runs. If I am recalling correctly, loading a saved game fixes the lag.
