(Old Proposal)
This unit of the Grigori is buildable in cities that have Museums.
Adept Unitcombat (Arcane), 90 hammers
2 str, 1 movement, defend only, Mind1, Spirit2, Channeling1, City Garrison1
Unit can create a great work of 10 culture within a city (exactly as a Missionary does it)
Unit can found a new Museum in a city that does not have one (As a priest can do with a Temple)
Tech Requirements are Writing, Philosophy, and Drama
The curator is a unit that I have considered, along with museums, ever since August of 2012. Technically the idea of the Curator came first. I have toyed around with giving similar functionality to the Illians, but of course if the Illians have the white hand, then their lv1 disciple unit can do the same thing.
The idea is not to replace religion as a whole, but just the minor aspects which have hidden strategic value. I would have given the Curator at least Mind1, to give it some secondary purpose other than its primary, but in the end it is its primary purpose that is the most important.

repo owner I don't think that the Grigori should get this. Having no religion is meant to be their disadvantage; to make them better IMO their strong points should be improved instead of trying to mend their weaknesses. This same argument makes me wonder if the museum should be removed.

reporter The Museum/Curator combination, as explained in the Civfanatics thread, is to replace a low-level mechanics issue. That issue is mid-game border control. Grigori Heroes are supposed to aid in the lack of Religious Heroes and Religious units. The Neutrality civic is to give them a membership option that they can choose if they wish, and this, the Museum/Curator combination, is to give them mid-game border control.
Normal Civs have Pagan Temples, 6 Religious Temples, and three tiers of Priest. The first tier has Medic1 and not much else, other than border popping of course.
I think I will trim up this proposal to make it more akin to my original idea for curators. Keep in mind that Curators don't have Medic 1, and I was giving it extra utility only to give the unit more strategic options. I wasn't trying to 'replace religion'.

repo owner Oh, I understand now. I like the new proposal better. Since it already has a 50% increase production cost in comparison with disciples, the culture they give could be increased to the same value that religion disciples (20).

repo owner I would like to mark this as something to include in 0.5.0. Do you have any suggestions with regard to unit art?

I'll look into some art to use for the curator, and include it in 0.5.0.

Account Deleted Could I offer another suggestion?
One of the features (so to speak) of the Grigori is that they can't expand borders in the standard way. If this is intended to be their method of pulling cities out of revolt sooner (as I understand it) then perhaps it could be cheapened but give only 1 culture (cities in revolt are considered to have 0/1 culture, thus giving 1 culture would take out of revolt without giving the second ring).
I don't remember quite where the museum comes out, but I worry that this will see domestic use and/or its militiristic use will undermine one of the things that define the Grigori.
(Oh, and can I suggest looking into the civilization-specific mage/adept art? I've found a lot of these don't see much use and could adapt well.)

repo owner As Tasunke mentioned, the intention is actually to give the Grigori a way to expand their borders. You have a point, though; it is meant to be one of the weaknesses of the civilization and the Curator should not be able to circumvent it completely. Perhaps the Curator should only give 10 culture, or have a Hope-like spell that creates a temporary building that grants 1 culture as long as the Curator is there. I'm reducing the priority of this task until we reach a solution for this problem.
With regard to unit art, that is one of the things that I would love to include in ExtraModMod but I'm always postponing because coding takes priority and browsing the huge unit art threads would take a lot of time. Civilization specific art for mages and adepts would be quite welcome. I also have a preselection of unit art for civilization-specific great generals somewhere, but I never finished it... I'll try to find it and post them. I have created an issue for art improvements (#224); if you have any specific suggestions you can post them either at that issue or at the forum thread.
