File & Help Menus Non-Functional until a file is opened via the open button

So I was going to test the Documentation link in the help menu and tried it before having opened a file. I discovered that none of the File or Help menu items work until you have opened a file using the button in the window. I marked this as critical because you cannot open a file, particularly via the "Open Recent..." menu item, which I imagine many people will try to use.
