Matrix size doesn't behave as expected

Setting matrix size to equal, fill or proportional works well on the full matrix. But when you try to do the same on a selected area, the view is reset to the entire matrix. And, as far as I can tell, there's no way to, for example, select a region, zoom in and then set the axis to be proportional to the visualized area. This feature is very useful for making figures when you want all cells to be square and the labels on the x and y axis equally spaced.
