missing .la files while building in veclinux-7.1

I was building sylpheed-3.4.1 in veclinux-7.1 and notice the .la files for some gtk+2 and atk pkgs is missing... I double check the gtk+2 and atk SlackBuild and did not find any commands to remove the .la files or build without static files... I was wondering did someone delete the .la files in the buildbot? So far i only encounter 2 pkgs with this issue...
