Display garbage

VL7.2-STD-AO.2 When I used geany to type what I was finding and went to adjust its windows, the screen went to garbage. Had to Power down, then was able to use gedit ok. Hints of the problem lingered and was unable to use some other applications. Booting to root immediately garaged the display.

Can you tell us what video hardware you have? I believe this is a known problem on some intel chips.
