DATA LOSS: Bookmark Manager causes loss of Notepad++ AutoSave data

Issue #18 new
Former user created an issue

#Issue Summary#

I lost a lot of work today as a result of installing the latest version of Bookmark Manager (v0.1.0.86). I had unsaved work in Notepad++ when I installed this plugin. After the installation process restarted Notepad++, my work had vanished. I rely a lot on Notepad++'s AutoSave feature and, because I have this turned on, NPP doesn't even warn me when I have unsaved work.

How to reproduce the issue

Before you begin, make sure that Notepad++'s Autosave feature is enabled. The feature, introduced last year, allows you to close NPP without saving your work. When you restart NPP, everything is restored. This is not the autosave plugins you see in the plugin manager. This is the one that comes built into Notepad++.

Next, using the latest Notepad++ v6.7.5...

1) Install Bookmark Manager 2) Launch Notepad++ 3) Create a few new blank tabs and add any content to each one. Do not save! 4) Close Notepad++ 5) Launch Notepad++

#What I expected#

All of the open tabs should still be there including their content. You can close and re-open Notepad++ as many times as you want. The content will always be restored, whether it is modified, saved or unsaved files. At least that is what happens without Bookmark Manager installed.

#What actually happens#

With Bookmark Manager installed, all but the active tab are gone the first time you restart Notepad++. If you close and re-open Notepad++ again, even the content of the current tab is gone.

This is a very serious compatibility bug! Please fix it as soon as possible.

I too experienced this problem. I like the idea of bookmarks, so having this feature would be a good thing. Please correct as soon as possible.

    Thanks!

I tested it and i don't experience the issue. Where do i enable the Autosave feature? I only see a "Backup" entry in preferences but i didn't change anything there, its all default.

    :edit

Notepad++ writes any unsaved data to %APPDATA%\Notepad++\backup, so have a look at this directory, if you are lucky your work is still there.
