Launcher does not work unless connected.

The launcher will not allow you to use it unless you are connected the internet. I'm not sure if this is a purposeful feature as it is a multiplayer game

Because the launcher likely attempts to update/download every time it is launched, I would assume that is the reason.

The launcher requires a internet connection to check if you have all the required files and if you have not it will automatically download them. However if you dig a little further into the game files you can launch the game without the launcher.
