Fire Wood & Coal Burn Times

In my opinion, the burn times for fire wood and coal are much too short. Currently on the Texas server (and I think the other servers as well), a 24hr game day is represented with 20 minutes of day and 20 minutes of night. This means one game hour passes every 1.6667 real life (RL) minutes (100 RL seconds per 1 game hour).

The current burn rate for fire wood is 30 RL seconds, which is about 20 in-game minutes. A single chunk of firewood can burn for at least an hour in RL. The in-game burn rate for fire wood should be adjusted accordingly. If the day/night cycle time remains at 20 min day / 20 min night, a single chunk of firewood should burn for at least 90 seconds of RL time.

Coal currently burns twice as long as fire wood (60 RL seconds, about 40 in-game minutes). I don't have any experience with burning coal, but it's burn rate should be adjusted accordingly. For example, if fire wood burns for 90 seconds, the coal should burn for 180 seconds to keep with the current ratio.

Regardless of a server's day/night cycle times, the fire wood & coal burn rates should be in proportion to the server's 24hr cycle period.

Just wanted to add, when you drop a single unit of Fire Wood, it looks like multiple logs. With that being the case, the burn times should probably be adjusted to burn longer than 1 in-game hour per unit of Fire Wood, maybe 2-3 in-game hours (and obviously longer for coal). But, the wood burning for at least 1 in-game hour per unit would still be an improvement.

    i agree with Montauk

I have a wood stove IRL, vogelzang, deluxe boxwood model. rated to heat 1260 sqf. on a single load of soft wood, i.e. 'poplar', the stove will burn for about 4 hours, and the embers last about another 1-2. on a single load of hard wood i.e. 'oak' or 'locust' the stove will burn for 8 hours easy, and the embers last about 2-3 more hours
