Pipsta / Pipsta Drawings

Introduction

Whilst most Pipstas tend to spend their lives on desks, some have found their way into other applications and environments. Some are mounted in vehicles, some are in kitchens in restaurants. One even ended up in a giant basset hound advertising shoes and printing out tickets when passers-by touched its nose!

If you have a Pi Model A+, Pi Model B+ or Pi2 Model B, and think a tweak to the Pipsta housing would benefit you, today's upload is for you.

File Types

There are two types of files in the download section:

PDF Files

Viewable with standard PDF readers, these files show the dimensions of each of the 5 parts.

DXF files

These files are intended for cutting machines (CNC or Laser cutters), but they can also be read with free viewers such as DraftSight or imported into CAD software to make modifications.

NB: Simply sending these files off to have parts cut to these dimensions is not sufficient! Cutting processes incur an offset called 'kerf', which is effectively the width of the cutting tool. This kerf value must be known and compensated-for. As this varies greatly with cutting technology and from machine to machine, you would need to discuss this with your chosen manufacturer prior to giving them the go-ahead. Failure to compensate for this may result in parts that are too small and holes that are too large.

It may be that the mnufacturer offers a service to modify the files in advance of cutting, but you should always make sure your requirements are understood!

File Names

Aside from the fact that they reference "B+" (as the B+ was the first release by the Raspberry Pi Foundation in this form-factor), the filenames are hopefully self-explanatory.

You may also have noticed that there are only five filenames for a six-sided box. This is because we use SIDE B+ twice in each set of plastics.

Feedback

We are always delighted to learn where and how Pipsta is being used. Please drop us a line at support@pipsta.co.uk if you have any problems or would simply like to share your project!
