Preview Resolution / Pipeline improvements

This is a combo of an improvement and a feature request.

Preview resolution could benefit from improvement. As I recall, a low resolution thumbnail image is being used when preview area is clicked (e.g. for dragging). This swaps preview into very pixelated view until click is released. Perhaps the simplest change would be to use not the thumbnail image but cache the preview generated during the initial load of the file into preview area, it very likely will be higher resolution.
The not so simple change would be to implement a different preview pipeline with more intelligent caching that would allow seamless continuous zooming (e.g. as in ACR zooming, using a GPU).
