Feature request: add "simple mode" to Spot removal tool

Issue #170 new
Paul Matthijsse created an issue

Hello Alberto, this is a proposal to make the Spot removal tool easier to use, especially for removing lots of dust spots on eg. scanned negatives. I propose to add a “simple mode”, the only slider needed is the size slider. Now activate the tool and click the Add/Edit button to start working. Press Ctrl and the size of the circle is shown, use the size slider to adapt to taste. Next: Ctrl+click sets the area next to the spot, but without showing the circles (they’re a bit distracting). Then paint with the mouse over the spot to be removed. Ctrl+click again for the next spot.

This is how the Repair tool in Gimp works and it is really much more convenient - and faster - to clean up negatives. The technology needed is already available in your tool, so I essentially propose to enrich the interface with this added “simple mode” (or retouch mode or scan mode).

Regards, Paul.

    Hi,

this is more work than it might appear when looking from a user’s perspective. I would be happy to have this simple mode, but on the other hand I don’t really have a pressing need for this myself…

OK, no problem, ART has a Send to Gimp button after all…

I forgot to mention that your spot removal tool works very well to remove sensor dust or other unwanted spots, but in the special case of scanned negatives (see also Michael Ezra’s remarks) it’s a bit cumbersome to use. I have no problems to use Gimp for that.

I agree that it’s cumbersome. Fortunately (for me :-), I don’t really have negatives to scan…
