Spot removal: poor blending with surrounding area leaving pale spots behind

Issue #61 wontfix
europlatus created an issue

There is sometimes poor blending after using the spot removal tool, resulting in bright spots left behind. See images.
Not sure if this is a bug or the tool struggling with a poor image. The RAW file this was particularly evident on was a scan of a an old film negative with high noise and contrast from light bleeding during the scanning (most of which can be easily cropped out).

This is the RAW from which the screenshots were taken. The pale spots left after using the Spot Removal tool are evident with minimal processing (crop, exposure, film negative).

The pale spots are not evident if you use the spot removal tool before inverting the image with the film negative tool. But as soon as it is inverted, they are there.

I can confirm that adjusting the Detail Protection slider yields much better results. Sorry for not having tested that earlier. I think the reason I overlooked it is because I have already done spot removal on about 30 different images and I have never adjusted the Detail Protection slider on any of those because the results were so good. Also, perhaps the name “Detail Protection” doesn’t really suggest that it helps with tone and colour? I’m not quite sure what the slider does exactly, but it worked with this issue.
