Thunderbird 78 - BrowseInTab v2.8

Thunderbird 91 - BrowseInTab v3.1

Thunderbird 102 - BrowseInTab v3.5

Features include:

  • Back/forward navigation. Via context menu, alt left/right arrow key, or standard mouse buttons.

  • Open a link using a context menu or configure loading in a tab on link click instead of opening in the default browser.

  • Options to set the maximum number of content tabs (not exposed in core Tb), or open a tab and focus it immediately are also found in Options/Preferences in Add-ons Manager.

  • Option to force content tab link or button clicks that would open in a tab (target="_blank") to open in the current tab.

  • Option to use the Firefox Compatibility user agent string for link loads only.

  • Option to add Content-Base header url link (with custom label) to Compose Forward Inline messages.

  • Zoom Options include global chrome (folder list, message list, toolbars, tabs) and content (messages, web pages, about system pages) zoom level, content only zoom increment on Ctrl+/- or Ctrl-mousewheel or left mousebutton down-mousewheel, image only zoom, and global or per tab zoom settings for content.

  • Global chrome and content zoom level applies to chrome widgets and chrome font-size proportionately.

New in v2.0

  • Options to display mail toolbar and url toolbar in all tabs.

  • Enhanced urlBar with per tab zoom (persisted across restarts), reload button, ctrl+F5 and ctrl+shift+F5 to reload/reload skip cache a web page or message.

New in v2.3

  • Open a new tab (content tab). Use ctrl-T or tab bar + button. Ensure you have set Maximum number of content tabs option to enable opening an additional new tab.

  • The urlBar for content tabs is now editable.

New in v2.5

  • Custom zoom options including image zoom.

NOTE: For v3.0 and Thunderbird 91 the following features are not yet available for newly implemented multiprocess content tabs (web pages, about: pages).

  • Force target="_blank" links to open in the same content tab.
  • Zoom using Ctrl-mousewheel or left mousebutton down-mousewheel.
  • Image zoom.

NOTE: For v3.5 and Thunderbird 102 the following features are not yet available.

  • Per tab zoom has been disabled due to discontinued availability of tab session store data.

NOTE: Thunderbird is not designed to be a browser. The content tab has a no history in the back/forward buttons, no bookmarking capability, and no session history for tabs (only the current url in the tab is restored). There is not fine grained control as found in, for example, the Firefox Privacy and Security preferences. It is recommended that an ad blocker like uBlock be used for an extra layer of privacy/security.
