Preferences state not restored correctly in Options; no tooltip pref not honored

I have MP 2.6 and TB 91.3.1.

I installed MP yesterday, and today it did not retrieve the previews, and I could not save preferences. After looking at the resolved issues on this website, I removed MP and reinstalled, and it now displays the previews.

However, MP cannot save my preferences. I want to "Enable Preview tolltip... " off, and "Get preview message" automatically. It resets my choices to there default values as soon as I navigate away from the MP preferences screen. However, it does save the number of characters I choose to display in the row.

If I was to guess, the issue is with the first setting "Enable Preview tolltip... " , since in TB, it acts like that setting is always true. The other settings seem to act according to my choices, even though they do not display when I check the MP preferences.
