"Your changes have been saved to Moodle" ?

Issue #8 resolved

Saving in Amanote states "Your changes have been saved to Moodle" upon success. However, annotation data does not seem to be saved in Moodle, but rather in Amanote istelf. Is this misleading?

The annotation data is saved in the user's private file in Moodle, nothing is stored on our server. When reopening a document, Amanote fetches the corresponding annotation data from Moodle. This is why Amanote states “Your changes have been saved to Moodle“.

Do you want us to change the message or is it ok with this explaination?

Thanks for the clarification. Indeed this is a very nifty feature which allows a backup of all user data to be kept and easily downloaded by the user, though in a closed format.

I found that the AMA file is in fact a TGZ containing the original PDF untouched and other metadata files presumably containing annotations. Would it be hard for this AMA archive to also contain a fully annotated pdf file?

I don't think it would be very practical to add the annotated pdf file to the archive. Why exactly do you want to add it to the archive?

However, it’s possible to export the document into a fully annotated PDF from Amanote (Export > PDF). This is maybe what you are looking for.

    Thanks.

Indeed it is possible to export into a fully annotated PDF, but this has to be done manually for each Amanote’d document.

What I would like to see is an easy way for the students to archive their annotated documents in a portable format.

The problem is that we only save the metadata in Moodle, saving a copy of the PDF for each student would take up too much space.

We will think to a solution.
