italic (small) caps

In my thesis I write multi letter acronyms with more than two letters in small caps. I also write brand and other proper names in italic. So logically a brand which is a multi letter acronym (like IBM for example) should be italic small caps.

1. What do you think of this from a typographers perspective
2. is\usepackage{tgpagella} the solution to this?

Thanks for the very good question. If I remember correctly, Bringhurst uses small caps also for these cases in his book. Unfortunately, I am no typography expert (and have not read deeply on that topic in years), I am sorry.
