Make switching off of the old-style figures easier

Issue #53 wontfix
Former user created an issue

``` I wasn't able to find if there is some option to classicthesis.sty for switching off the old-style figures in the default setup. It took me quite some time to figure, that the line
\PassOptionsToPackage{osf,sc}{mathpazo}%
should be changed to
\PassOptionsToPackage{sc}{mathpazo}%
It would nice if this were documented in the supplied manual. A package option would be even better. ```
    ``` Turning off old-style figures breaks the typographic design and, thus, will never be officially supported ;-\

    NB: The ToC illustrates this on chapter-level, where the figures have about the same height as the chapter title. w/o old-style figures, this wouldn't look that nice. ```

    ``` I agree that it doesnt look good in the TOC. However, my text contains lots of numbers i. e. physical quantities (like $2.0\;\text{eV}$, etc) and inline math. The combination of lining figures in math and old-style figures in text doesn't look cosistent to me. Sometimes it is not even clear, whether the number should be in math or not ( "2n" in the equations for multipoles and "2n-pole" as a noun for example). So perhaps switching the math to old-style could help? ```
    ``` I see your problem, math is an issue here (packages such as minionpro define options for using osf for text and lining figures for math, however, mathpazo does not do so as far as I know).

    A possibility would be to activate classicthesis' eulermath option, which gives you the very nice Euler font for math (with lining figures). This font also works very well with mathpazo from a typographical point of view.

    PS: A brute force approach would be something like this: http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/46167/using-oldstyle-figures-of-palatino-mathpazo-in-math-mode ```

    ``` The math with osf using mathastext package looks - surprisingly - quite good. Only the small size of "0" looks bad in the frequent formulas of type $$some big expression = 0$$. I think I may try again to get used to the distinct styles for math and text...
    Thanks for help ```
    ``` By coincidence I found a discussion of this issue by Knuth himself mentioned on http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/38820/numbers-outside-math-environment answer http://tex.stackexchange.com/a/38827 I put it here for reference, in case that someone has similar problems. I basically figured out the same thing and now I am using eulermath, while trying carefully to enclose all the "mathematical" numbers between $. ```

    Could you please provide more details as to what does not work? Regarding new issues, for example, we provide this template:

    Is your issue really caused by classicthesis (and not by another package that is loaded or that you added)? Did you try to solve your issue on your own or by checking common sources on the web? Did you check the wiki and previous issues whether your problem has already been solved? Did you send a postcard? ;-)

    What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. 2. 3.

    What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

    What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

    Please provide any additional information below.

    Also please to not post links that are not relevant to the issue and could be seen as advertisements. Thank you.

    Dear André, for me, this topic is very important. I was wondering, that there were so few complaints about it. Euler math is a very beautiful font and I would like to use it, but it is only upright. As I think, nearly every university in Germany (I don’t know how about other countries) requires italic variables. There is even a DIN standard about it. What would you recommend in this case?
