bibliography keys with colon and French language

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. change document language to French
2. compile
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

A few errors appear saying ""The control sequence marked <to be read again> should
not appear between \csname and \endcsname."

The solution seems to be removing colons from bibliography keys in Bibliography.bib

That's really strange, colons are rather usual in bibliography keys...?

According to the babel manual, ":" is a shorthand character and, thus, seems to mess things up in this case.
