Does this work in local lab?

Does Poste.io (free version) works in a lab situation? I'm looking for a possible solution where Poste.io would work on Ubuntu in one machine, and the users would access it via Thunderbird installed on another machine (both machine on the same subnet/network). Poste.io would be setup without public DNS (since it is a lab, I'll use hosts file to route the local domain)

Is this possible?

It should work. In fact, we run poste in very similar way for automatic testing.
