Explain why mail has been markes as spam in body.

Issue #468 resolved
Henrik Tilly created an issue

Today you can insert a header and alter the subject when a mail is being marked as spam. I.e. subject has a prefix added with SPAM or similar.

Some of these are legit mails and the best is of course to let them now that their mail is being marked as spam. So now to the suggestion / question.

Would it be possible to add text to the BODY. I.e. in the very beginning of a mail marked as spam, include the summary of all checks and why it was finally was marked as spam. Kind of like what we see in the "Connections realtime" today but in a summary.

Would this be possible? Can you see the advantage of doing this?

Thanks for a great product.

Well, the idea with adding it to the actual mail is so that the endusers can get an explanation of why it is being marked as spam. And better of, if the mail is legit, the end user can then forward the mail back to the sender with not just the information that their mail is being marked as spam, but also why.

Have you tried setting the threshold for your spam higher if legitimate emails are being flagged?

We reject anything above rspamd score of 12 and (at around 1k - 1.3k quarantined per day) it is yet to quarantine a legitimate email. Very little spam gets through at this level for us.

It may also be worth trying more lookup servers.

In our experience, 99% of the time if things are being marked as spam there is a bigger problem than just the content.

Changing the body of the mail is bad practise: A mail body should never be changed unasked. Furthermore, I can imagine there are issues with HTML bodies, eg with colors or breaking the correct display of the email. If you plan to introduce such a feature, I would add the the spam results as text-file attachments, so it's easy to remove when not wanted.
