Show download activity (somewhere)
The program doesn't show anything when it is downloading. It would be nice to ask first (like VLC player) and also show some kind of visualisation.
The downloading is quite massive, a user without any knowledge might think he's internet died. Especially when on a low-speed connection.

reporter No, I can not see any progress bar. To clarify -- this happens when I start the program, and the program starts to download and generate the Recommendation Lists.
Maybe it would be better to not to generate these lists when the program is run for the first time, because most probably the user hasn't chosen the correct languages yet. Instead, have the program generate them [the first time] when the user goes to the recommendation list. The program could prompt and ask for permission to download from the internet, and say, that it is slow only for this first time.

repo owner Oh, you meant the lists.
The problem with generating lists when the program runs for the first time is that the lists might not be accurate later. The reason for this is because the top lists will probably be translated fairly quickly. It's wiser to fetch them every time.
The list fetching is designed to run in background. Hence no progress bar.
It might be a good idea to have a button "Load" in the lists window, which will control the whole process.

Isn't the progress bar showing at the bottom of the window?
