Width of article list

Width of an article list should be 1) fixed into specific pixel count from the left edge so it would not take 1/3 of the user interface on a widescreen monitor, and 2) this pixel count should go under user preferences so that user might change it accordingly (how he or she likes) and it would stay there.

It is really starting to annoy me, that I can't fix it into a width that I prefer.
