SkinnedMeshRenderer in Child Prefabs broken after revert

I have the following setup:
Parent and Child are seperate Prefabs, Child is nested within Parent. When I revert either the Child or Parent Prefab the SkinnedMeshRenderer gets "broken": when moving the object the mesh stays in place in the scene (also animations using that mesh no longer work). I tried with a MeshRenderer and that works without problems, it really only affects the SkinnedMeshRenderer.
