Override the Save / Discard functionality for developers

Issue #103 resolved

The possibility of having a preview or a draft version of a grid or dashboard is a very well received functionality.

However there has to be a possibility to turn it off, for development purpose, and save the cube settings and advanced settings as the final version directly.

My arguments are the following:

  • Every time you turn the Edit Mode on or off, the view or dashboard will refresh to reflect the settings in the cube. This usually takes about 3 seconds, but it can take even longer depending on the VPN and on the computer you are working from. (Computers provided by customers are usually slow)
  • When editing dashboards or views inside of a wizard, things are even more painfull, as the wizard resets to step 1 every time you turn the developer mode on or off, or you save and discard
  • You always have to play with the edit mode and turn it off to make sure that the final result looks pretty, but also turn it back on for changes. Keeping edit mode always on isn’t an option.
  • Allowing developers to override this settings in default.js (or somewhere else) could save up to 20% of the time currenty needed to build complex dashboards or wizards.

@Radu Cantor on 2.5.2 release - we will include major performance improvements on the edit mode toggle on/off

    • switching this off is not an option for now and not considered to be added at the moment
