HTML tooltips and Excel export

I noticed that when exporting a grid (to Excel) with cells containing embedded HTML (e.g., <span title=TOOLTIP>TEXT</span>) the entire HTML string is exported instead of just the TEXT. Usually I don’t see any situation where a user needs to export the back-end HTML. Instead, they would usually want to export exactly what they see on the screen. Is it possible to have the Excel export feature only export the TEXT?
