Selected calendar dates values and picklist values disappear after user input

When selecting a date from the calendar selection in a grid or picking a value from a picklist in a grid, the value shows up for a fraction of a second, but then disappears, only to reappear after the grid is refreshed.

It can be confusing for the user when typing data in a large grid.
