Implement a minimal application stub

I was missing a minimal application stub, which I can use to try out some REST client calls or which i can use as a base for a custom application. I think such an application stub can be included directly into this project, so I created another module for this.

Please tell me what you think about it and if you like it, what further work might be done to get this merged.
