Notifications posted from another bot (mine) don't get processed by karma

I have a bot that is supposed to decrease karma for Lotus Notes (don't ask--we use it) once a day. So I send a message of LotusNotes--., but Karma bot does not respond by lowering karma (but it works as expected if type this interactively as a user).
