Transition issue always reverts to "backlog"

When creating a new pull request (click + on the pull request menu), it automatically transitions the Jira ticket back to “backlog”

    @Scott Mankowitz Does this happen even if you select a different option in the Transition issue section before creating the pull request?

    No. If I turn the switch to off, or if I select a different option, it works as expected. My problem is that it always defaults to “backlog”. If I don’t catch it, it reverts all my tickets.
