Automatic room creation
Could we consider giving the ability to dynamically create a new room specially for the guest right on the click of the button? The goal would be to create a "Contact support" button right on the webpage. The support team would then chat right from HipChat.

@mbaumgartner - Atlassian seems to have something along these lines available now in the Atlassian Connect (AC) JIRA project, see e.g. sidebar panel HipChat Discussions for AC-1082, which uses
jquery.hipchat.js
: Out of curiosity, I clicked Open which created a dedicated room for this issue, once I closed it, the log has been attached, which surfaces that the assignee received a notification:[Sat, 21 Jun 2014 16:26:18 GMT] AC Bot: sopel needs some love on issue AC-1082 (https://ecosystem.atlassian.net/browse/AC-1082) @MJensen
The feature seems to be enabled for the AC project only, i.e. can be disabled/enabled per project, pretty cool :)
@mrdon - do you have more information about whether/when this add-on might be available for other users?
-
I did get a notification, which lead me here. I thought it meant you voted on that issue, but looks like this was caused by you opening the chat?
-
@steffenopel Nope. Try contacting the developers of that add-on.
-
Missed the notifications, sorry ...
@mjensen - I wasn't aware that one might get notifications for votes, is that the case? Either way, I'd expect the notification to be triggered by me opening the chat indeed, at least that's what the quoted chat log seems to suggest.
@mrdon - thanks, but I don't know who they are, hence the question ;) - a tweet by @tpettersen provides some hints (presumably @pbrownlow?!), so I'll go that route in case:
[...] it's the work of Peter B and another Atlassian dev. I don't think he tweets, but he's on the mailing list of you need him.
-
@mjensen - thinking again, I definitely triggered the notification that lead you here by quoting that chat log above, which implied @ mentioning your name, sorry for the noise/confusion.

Account Deactivated @steffenopel myself and @vkok are the authors of JIRA HipChat Discussions. Currently it's on some dogfooding instances providing valuable service as a canary, occasionally finding Connect issues before they hit prod. Sounds like it might be time to finally make staging and prod instances.

Account Deactivated I've just made JIRA HipChat Discussions public at https://marketplace.atlassian.com/1211938!

We wouldn't be able to do that via just a jQuery plugin, but if you wrote an add-on, that is totally doable.
