Suggestion: traditional UI controls

Issue #92 on hold
stevefal created an issue

I think the UI as designed is buckling under the load of inherent task complexity. The series of icons and abbreviations is cryptic, and the UI mechanics involved in completing tasks is not apparent.

I suggest that the UI paradigm be revisited, and that the app adopt traditional conventions instead of an attempt at graphical minimalism.

Every GUI environment has virtually the same set of tried-and-true UI controls and constructions for visualizing and interacting with settings, commands, collections, etc.

Rather than to have graphics and text draw over the video image, I suggest a sidebar as is typical with many image processing tools, within which standard buttons, lists, dropdowns, checkboxes and custom controls, as necessary, are used to accomplish tasks in a robust and familiar way.

Thanks for the feedback. These are fair observations and suggestions.

Currently, there is very limited development resource available, so any larger rewrite such as this is unlikely to happen unless the project gets more regular and active code contributors.
