Followers randomly stop being your follower

I’m not sure how this happens but randomly, followers will stop being your follower. In this save I had Oboroqoru and a clone of him, and I noticed the clone was missing, so I went back down a few steps and found the clone just sitting there with no option to control him. I’ve had this happen before where the main non-clone disappeared and the follower became hostile to me.
