legendary junk dollar inconsistency

Stepping on a legendary junk dollar makes it explode but confers no reputation changes. Ritualing the junk dollar and stepping on it however does trigger oathbreaking. Whether stepping on it counts as a kill or not, I expected the response to be consistent whether it is ritualed or not.
