Important abilities missing from flying status effect
Flying lets one go to the world map to exit combat and, I believe, decreases the chance of getting lost while traveling on the world map. However, neither of these important abilities is shown to the player.
The wings mutation provides this information for itself, but it doesn’t seem accessible in game for other modes of flying.

reporter That seems like a slightly different issue, but it would be nice to have that info in game, too. Having flying automatically activate when on the world map might be a simple solution to that.

Sort of, but since flying does not influence the lost chance—the wings mutation itself does—I don’t believe it makes sense to show on the flying effect.
-
reporter All modes of flying do influence the lost chance--not just the wings mutation--this info is just missing in game. That’s what this bug report is for…

And as you said, all effects of flying are automatically active while one is on the world map, so I don’t see your logic of it not making sense to show this.

You are misunderstanding the wiki:
Most sources of flight grant a bonus to your travel speed on the world map as well as your chance to get lost. These bonuses stack together even for multiple flight-granting items, and they stack by adding on to other bonuses not multiplying by them. These bonuses apply even when the flight ability is not activated although if the item in question needs to be fuelled or have a charged-cell installed if applicable even if it's not in active use.
(emphasis mine)

Additionally, flight can be obtained without a corresponding change in lost chance—for instance, dilute warm static

reporter Yes I can read. That modes of flying other than wings do not in anyway indicate these effects is the point of this bug report. Showing the effects on the item or in the status effect is functionally identical, so I don’t really get what you’re arguing about.
-
My argument is that it is unrelated to the flying status itself (particularly since it’s unrelated to the particular way you started flying), and I don’t think it should be added there. I think adding the chances to the item descriptions instead would make sense.
-
reporter Yeah, that’d be a functional solution
Some trivial differences: Having it wrapped into a status effect would allow one to turn it off on the world map (not sure why, but I saw others mention wanting this ability) and to see the bonuses stacking.
I also kinda like seeing the flying effect while on the world map, just as a visual queue that I’m soaring, not trekking around like a pleb lol

How would that deal with multiple sources of flight (e.g. both wings and wearing gyrocopter)? Would you suggest that only the source currently granting flying should interact with the lost chance, as it does for the falling chance (for example)?
-
reporter I’m thinking flying modes behave exactly the same as now, world map included, just showing the active effects mentioned.

The not getting lost chance is applied by the source of flight regardless of if you are flying.
