I'm assuming it works the same way it does for companions, where they 'die' and only the new instance exists. So something might be causing me to not be killed by it?

The attach button included some broken HTML and I can’t update the above comment, but in the attached save, there’s a goatfolk qlippoth wandering around sharing my character name and having all of the character’s inventory items - it was produced by pouring warm static on myself from the nearby ichor vendor.
