Inconsistencies in reputation variations

When doing the Water Ritual, we sometimes have bonuses or penalties with various other groups.

But, a few days ago, I got two penalties with one faction while doing a single Water Ritual.

So, maybe it's okay, we'll say the guys really don't like the fellow I was doing the ritual with ...

But the next game I played, I got again 2 variations with a same faction in a Water Ritual, but one being negative, while the other one wath positive, which leave me quite circumspect about the logical ...
