Game freezes at the becoming nook

My game froze at a screen that says “You are no aristocrat. Goodbye.” It appeared after I used a machine - I think it’s called the becoming nook, though I’m new to this game and not sure. No controller inputs or keyboard inputs work, though the icons will swap back and forth to indicate whether keyboard or controller was pressed last. See screenshot.
