Ctrl+Tab key combo in Tinkering screen does not "Switch to Build"

The Tinkering screen is stuck in “modify equipment” mode for me [1]. I see a “Ctrl+Tab - Switch to Build” key hint, but pressing Ctrl + Tab does nothing. I can’t get to the build screen. When I restart Qud, it defaults to the build mode in Tinkering, so I can still work around this. However, now I can’t get to the “modify equipment” mode except via direct access from a particular piece of equipment.

[1] The Tinkering screen (“n”) can be used to modify equipment like armor or melee weapons, or (as a separate menu) build new equipment like recoilers.
