Giving books to Sheba seems unusually slow

Something that’s been particularly accentuated on my ridiculous high level save, is that at wild quantities of books handing in books at Sheba takes a ridiculously long time (they’re in the plain chest in the attached save), taking 10 minutes total real life time or thereabout. It’s no surprise to take so long there, but it did call to mind how at normal quantities of books after historic site diving, it will often take a second or two and hitch the game even on my high-end PC, which gives me concern that the problem is accentuated for lower end PCs. Star-Verse in the discord mentions having to quit the game because they had assumed it broke, it was taking so long for theirs to happen. I’m unsure if optimization is possible here, but I remember when Noelle’s give all books mod was the way to do this, I never had it take particularly long (though never did things as ridiculous as this save), so perhaps there is something to be learned there?
Regardless, if it could be helped, it seems like making it run a little faster would be a worthwhile investment into performance optimization.
