with swoop:

• you are flying
• you swoop, using 1000 energy
• your opponent gets their turn. if they are grounded and melee only, they cannot hit you
• you hopefully remain airborne

without swoop [i.e. toggling fly manually]:

• you are flying
• you land
• you attack, using 1000 energy
• your opponent gets their turn. they may hit you with grounded melee
• you can go airborne again afterwards as usual

swoop’s description states:
”You swoop down to attack a target on the ground, using one turn to attack and one to return to the air”
