<exsanguination microtubules> Frozen creatures don't unthaw when you're in an adjacent zone. For example, with freezing hands, I often retreat up or down a stairwell temporarily to heal. I can wait hundreds of turns up the stairwell and enemies I froze below don't unfreeze until after I return to the zone. (It's clear that other stuff is going on in that zone though, like creatures moving around and attacking each other.)
