<SpaceSR> current non-beta steam version. bug: I've managed to untick this box and have no idea how. Enter and spacebar both let me select respective lairs but they won't show up on the map with this off.

You can select/deselect these boxes by pressing Tab. Whether or not that is obvious enough to a player is up for discussion. The journal UI does say Tab - Map Pin at the bottom of the screen.
