Having more and more books in inventory makes the game slower and slower.

Having more than a 100 books in the inventory after raiding historic library place it took about one minute of loading between each overworld tile movement. It feels like loading times increase with each book in the inventory.

This doesn’t replicate for me and there doesn’t seem to be anything special about books that would do it. Maybe you can come up with a theory.
