unidentified data disks in tinkers' inventory

When trading with a tinker, without Tinkering, but with the optical technoscanner implant, the data disks appear unidentified, but looking at them with the "l" key reveals what they are. Is that the intended behaviour?

oh, yeah, my bad. I missed that bit.

I’m curious, though, is there a reason for not always displaying full name since looking at it provides the same data even if you don’t have some source of tech reading? Maybe the difference is for some future functionality, but otherwise it just seems weird.
