Lag in displaying attack animations

Issue #4218 resolved

There is often a lag in displaying attack animations, relative to other displayed actions. And the animation always shows the top object in the square the player attacked from attacking the square the player attacked, even when changed circumstances mean that is no longer appropriate.

For instance:

(1) when processing a sequence of attacks against one creature, the attack animations often continue after the creature is shown to have died. So it appears that the player is attacking the corpse (or whatever else is left behind).

(2) when digging (whether just one square or a line of squares), the attack animations usually lag behind the player's movement. Suppose that the player is standing in a pool of slime when they start digging. After they finish digging the first square, they move into it, but the animations don't reflect that, and it appears that the pool of slime is attacking the player.

This lag can be very severe (probably because I play on a slow machine). But I think it should be a principle that no attack animations be shown after the target of the attack is destroyed.
