Died of poison while resting

Hi folks. I got poisoned by an ickslug and rested with about 30hp remaining and died of poison while resting. I would have expected, if I was still taking damage from the poison, that it would interrupt rest. It might have had to do with the last meal I ate whose effect was, when you fall beneath about 30% hp, you gain about +30% hp for an hour. I suspect maybe that wore off at an inconvenient time and my hp fell to 0. Is it intentional that that metabolizing effect works that way? Maybe it would be better if you keep your current life total when it wears off, or have it set to 1 life at worst.
